Alison was travelling to Istanbul on 17th June 2016 with Turkish Airlines to then travel on her connecting flight to Cyprus. Alison was due to depart at 10.40am, but didn’t depart until a lot later.
“I checked-in and went through security and arrived at the departure gate. We handed in our boarding passes and sat on the plane to be told that there was a technical fault which would take 15 minutes to resolve.”
“15 minutes were up and we were then told that the pilot had banged his head and wouldn’t be able to fly until 5 o’clock that evening because they didn’t have anyone on standby.”
Worried about missing the connecting flight…
“It was very difficult because a lot of us were on a connecting flight, which meant if we missed that connection then we would have to wait in Istanbul for 24 hours.”

Passengers who were not on a connecting flight were taken back into the main terminal and received meal vouchers. The passengers who weren’t travelling direct had to wait in a queue to find out what would happen to their connecting flight.
I feel like companies like you tend to get more of a response then say if I took it up with the airline myself
“They said if the flight left at 5pm as scheduled then we should make our connection. That was all the information we got from the airline. We were told to sit and watch the screens.”
“I got to the airport at 7am so you can imagine how tired I was. It was a long day and didn’t help that I was travelling alone. No matter how big the airport is there’s only so much you can do.”
“There was never any announcements or anything.”
It was now 4pm and the screens told the Turkish Airline passengers to go to the gate as they were ready to start boarding.
“There was another flight scheduled to depart to Istanbul at 5pm so a few people for that flight came down to our departure gate, not realising it was our delayed flight from earlier so it got very confusing.”
Running for the connecting flight
“As soon as I got off the plane, Turkish Airlines handed me my boarding card for my next flight and told us to run as we only had 10 minutes to catch our next flight. Fortunately I didn’t have to wait around until the next day as we had just made it in time.”
The road to claiming flight delay compensation
“It was the first time I had flown with Turkish Airlines and normally a delay wouldn’t bother me but because I was on my own and there was no one to help I decided to claim compensation.”
“It hasn’t put me off travelling with Turkish airlines because it was a fantastic flight and you had all food and drink included whereas a lot of airlines don’t do that.”
“It was just the fact that I thought it was a poor excuse to not have another pilot on standby.”
Alison searched flight compensation on Google and came across FlightCompensation.com.
“I couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of trying to claim myself so I thought I would go down the route of using a company and see how it goes.”

“Overall I was happy with the service. I understand you take your fees for the time you take writing to the airline and when issuing court proceedings.”
“I would tell people that if they didn’t have the time then to go with FlightCompensation.com. I feel like companies like you tend to get more of a response then say if I took it up with the airline myself.”
