The Rhodes family from Wigan were travelling from Manchester Airport to Lanzarote for their long awaited two-week summer holiday on 27th July 2011.
Chris, his wife and their two children arrived at check-in well ahead of their scheduled boarding time of 2.35pm.
“Upon arrival we were told that there would be a slight delay. When we asked how long it would be, the Jet2 check-in staff said that they were unsure. Three hours later we were still waiting.”
After waiting a while, passengers were provided with food and drink vouchers. “The vouchers weren’t up to scratch as the food and drink redeemable was very limited”.
Four hours later passengers were relieved to be called to board the plane. But what they didn’t expect was more unsolved problems…
A plane full of bothered passengers
“We were eventually told to board the plane, only to be told to get off again because a technical fault had been discovered.”
Jet2 announced that the plane could not be repaired in time, so a new one would be sent the following morning, something Chris was furious about.
“We were provided with accommodation for the night but weren’t given any food that evening and no breakfast the next day.”

Holidaymakers were eventually called to board, already exhausted before their trip had even started.
“Jet2.com denied responsibility relying on their excuse of “technical fault.”
“Once we arrived in Lanzarote, it took a while for us to wind down because of all the stress we had experienced back in Manchester. We felt robbed because we lost two days of our holiday”.

Jet2 had managed to convince Chris that he couldn’t claim any compensation and so he gave up until reading on the Money Saving Expert website that technical faults are claimable.
